This UNESCO site has been used for the last 300 hundred years to confine political prisoners, among which Nelson Mandela stands out. Most of the tours include a visit to the island and to the prison. The hike to the top of Table Mountain, the iconic symbol of Cape Town, is considered one of the most rewarding climbs in the words for its stunning views and its rich biodiversity. Different routes with different difficulties exist, but generally hikes last about 2.5 hours. For the less dynamic ones, a cableway ride will anyway allow to reach the top of the mountain.

District Six Museum serves to keep alive the memory of about 60.000 inhabitants of this district who, in 1966, were forced by the law to leave their homes simply because the zone was declared eligible to be lived by whites only. A visit to the museum is essential to grasp a glimpse of the apartheid-era.

Boulder Beach is not definitely an ordinary beach, for two reasons: first of all, as the name suggests, the beach is scattered with several grey titanic boulders, perfect to be climbed up. Secondly, the beach is populated by a penguin colony and the animals can be observed in their natural habit.

Guided township tours are absolutely great to visit an alternative side of Cape Town, sometimes undeservingly overlooked by tourists. Sleeping overnight is also possible, while tasting some original African food is absolutely an opportunity that should not be missed.

Shark diving is surely a unique experience that raises adrenaline levels to the maximum, and in Cape Town there are several agencies offering this possibility. It is not uncommon seeing white sharks which length exceeds 4 meters.

The Castle is an exceptionally well preserved Dutch East India Company fort and it is widely considered South Africa’s oldest building (as it was built in 1666). The sheer size of the fortification projects visitors into another era made of dungeons, cannons, barracks and torture chambers.

The African Dance Theatre is a must do for anyone willing to feel pure African culture. Shows generally last one hour and are filled by entertaining performances showing African traditions and music. The energetic and vibrant beats of the drums and the Zulu war dances are capable to overwhelm any spectator, making their feet constantly tapping throughout the show.

The aquarium is inspired by the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean, which both wash the costs of South Africa. Clear waters and wide glass windows allow visitors to view and interact with several sea animals such as seahorses and ragged tooth sharks.

South Africa is increasingly becoming a hot-spot regarding wine culture, and Cape Town is surrounded by well deserving wineries. Good quality wines, delicious food and spectacular panoramas are just waiting to be enjoyed!
